Read Luke 10 – More than twelve.  Jesus sends out 70 (some texts read 72) other disciples to go into the towns and share the good news.

The twelve apostles were very special, but that did not exclude all the other followers of Christ from kingdom work!  People who go to church fall into one of two categories, family member or spectator.  These 70 were family members.  Jesus knew their hearts and knew they could be trusted to harvest the field.  He sent them out in pairs…. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says:  “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.  For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow, but woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!”  Beloved, don’t be a spectator.  There is great work to be done within the family of God, His church, be a useful worker, be one Jesus would choose to harvest His field. 

Verses :25-:27 remind us once again of the most important commandments:  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.  And love your neighbor as yourself.” And the man Jesus is speaking to asks, “Who is my neighbor?”  Good question, right?  And Jesus’s response is wonderful because it crosses all social barriers and lifts up the individual.  The Samaritan man went to great personal lengths to care for the Jewish man.  See what Jesus saw and be the one who shows mercy. 

Finally, Mary sits at Jesus’s feet, taking in his every word, while Martha fusses over the details of dinner.  Beloved, don’t get fussy over details, sit at Jesus’s feet today.🏳🙌🏳📖🏳👆🏳

Luke 9

Read Luke 9 – Jesus is RAD!  Maybe that sounds irreverent, but I just can’t think of another way to say it. 

Our chapter starts with Jesus calling and empowering the disciples to cast out all demons and heal all diseases (:1).  Beloved, whatever Jesus calls you to, he will equip you for. 

We get Luke’s version of what we read in John 6… remember, eyewitness account should always be slightly different.  If it is exactly the same, it screams of collaboration.  The feeding of the multitude with five loaves and two fish is told by all four gospel authors, but we are going to stay true to our ‘daily bread’ and focus on Luke.  Verse 11 shows us Jesus’s attitude.  He welcomed the crowd.  He taught and healed them, as he taught his own disciples about caring for others.  “You give them something to eat,”  Jesus tells the disciples… Our Savior is always inviting his beloved’s into the miracles! 

Verses :23-25 Jesus speaks about picking up one’s cross and following Him.  Picking up one’s cross is a one way journey. 

Verses :28-36 cover the transfiguration when Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Jesus in the presence of Peter, James and John.  Wow, right??? 

This is so rich and I have only scratched the surface.  Read on, Beloved, read on!

Luke 8

Read Luke 8 – Sometimes God says no.   Sometimes we have expectations but the Lord’s purpose is different for us.  

The farmer plants seeds expecting crops, but not every seed thrives. Where did you fall in the seed parable(:4-:15).  It’s not too late to start taking care of your roots… get yourself in the ‘good soil’ of Jesus. 

The possessed man from Gadarenes was miraculously delivered from the legion of demons, and wanted to follow Jesus(8:26-38).  That seems noble, right?  But in verse :39 we learn Jesus sent him home telling him,  ” ‘No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.’  So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.” 

Do you ever get answers that are different from your expectations?   Do you respond with gratitude and obedience like the man did? Beloved, there is much more than this to be gleaned from our chapter,  happy reading!📖📖📖💖📖📖📖

Luke 7

Read Luke 7 – It starts and ends with faith. 

Our chapter begins with the Centurion, who has faith that Jesus’s word will heal his servant, even without his presence. And ends with the fallen woman at Jesus’s feet, whose faith comes from her brokenness, leading to her grateful adoration. 

In between the two, our tenderhearted Shepherd, Jesus, sees a widow in such grief he revived her son from death right from the coffin! And Jesus has a fascinating interaction with the disciples of John the Baptist. It shows us that we can have questions. Jesus IS Messiah, Son of God, Son of Man.  He is Lord and Savior, and he welcomes questions.

Beloved, is your faith strong?   What questions will strengthen your faith? Where do you need Jesus to meet you?   Ask, seek, knock… Jesus loves you so fully!  💖

Luke 6

Read Luke 6 – Jesus was revolutionary.   As you read chapter 6, consider all the ways Jesus put people over “religion”.  

Jesus defended the hunger of his disciples over the Sabbath laws,  pointing out that even King David ate the consecrated bread (:1-:5). 

Jesus simplified the Sabbath healing of a man’s hand by asking which was lawful to do on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it(:9)?  Legalism does not honor the intent of the Sabbath.   It does not honor God.

Jesus chose the twelve disciples to be Apostles after praying all night. Did you ever notice the duplicate names?   There are two Simons, two James and two Judas, but Jesus personalized each one.  

Jesus shares words that lift up the downtrodden and humble the affluent in verses :17-:49.  “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brothers eyes and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” 6:41.

Beloved,  you do you well, with love, reverence and humility leading the way.   You do you to the glory and honor of Jesus, and watch what He will do with your surrendered life.💜

Luke 5

Read Luke 5 – Work, work, work – there is so much work to be done, and it is vastly different from the old ways.  My daughter is on a team that launches new restaurants all around the country.  They fly them in to come alongside the new staff to train them in the highly successful culture that has set her restaurant apart.  Perhaps they got that idea from Jesus. 

In Chapter 5, we see Jesus teaching and raising up his disciples.  He teaches from Simon’s boat, and when he is finished he tells Simon to go to the deep waters and cast his nets.  Simon is a fisherman.  He fished all night and didn’t catch a thing, yet because Jesus said to, he would cast his nets again(:5).  Simon has a crisis of faith when he realized what happened because he understood his sin in the presence of Jesus’ holiness(:8).  Jesus used this situation to illustrate how they (James and John were there too), would become fishers of men (:10). 

Beloved, be humble enough to do things God’s way, even if you are an expert. 

A man with leprosy asked Jesus if he was willing to heal him and make him clean (:12).  This shows resolute faith.  The man knew Jesus could heal him, the only question was – was he willing?  How do you pray?  Do you know Jesus can change the impossible?  Do you still love and trust him if he says no or not yet? 

Jesus heals a paralyzed man as a two part miracle.  He forgave the mans sins first off.  This got the attention of the religious leaders.  They called it blasphemy, stating only God could forgive sin(:21).  Jesus used this miracle to bless the man AND to wake up the religious leaders. 

Jesus sums up his purpose when he calls Matthew to be his disciple:  I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent (:32).  Beloved, may God bless your reading and show you many more things than this!!!

Luke 4

Read Luke 4 – The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life… every temptation known to us can be categorized in one of these three areas.  Ponder that for a second.  We have a Lord and Savior who knows every temptation we may be presented with… Jesus is not some holier than thou entity – he faced temptation, in every area we may come up against and he fought it off with the Word. 

Notice too that the devil knows his fair share of Scripture, yet uses it to try to corrupt.  Beware of those who do this.  In :13 we see that the devil was finished tempting Jesus until next time.  Beloved, the devil is a prowling lion.  He is always on the lookout for the next time. 

Next, Jesus goes to his hometown.  In :22 the people were amazed by his teaching and in :28 they were furious.  The truth is convicting.  The people were going to push Jesus off a cliff, but he passed through the crowd and went on his way, :29-30.  That is one of those little miracles that often go unnoticed; keep your eye out for miracles. 

Jesus continues to teach and perform miracles throughout our chapter.  In Capernaum, Galilee, he healed Simon’s mother-in-law, and her immediate response was to prepare a meal for them :39.  Beloved, live in gratitude like this, always caring for those around you as long as you are able. 

Our chapter ends with Jesus on the move… just as he calls us to.  Do not keep the Good News in a box to be let out on Sunday mornings… take it everywhere you go, and be ready to share.🤗

Luke 3

Read Luke 3 – This ain’t no ‘once upon a time’ – Luke is an educated man, a physician, and his account in our chapter gives historical details that are established.  :1 gives us the political timeline.  :2 gives us the religious timeline. 

John’s ministry is revealed in verses 3:3-:22.  John was resolute, and bold; he was not afraid to be offensive.  He was both weird and wise, and commanded the listeners ear.  He pointed to Jesus, and did not seek his own fame.  His ministry was prophesied way back in Isaiah 40:3-5.  John the Baptist baptized Jesus.  Luke’s account gives a slightly different view than the one we just read in John 1:29-34.  Luke records the Holy Spirits descent from heaven, like a dove, upon Jesus, and the Father’s response:  You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy(:22). 

Jesus’s earthly ministry begins when he is about 30 years old (:23) and then Luke presents Jesus’s lineage.  This is very special to me, because Jesus is known as Joseph’s son even though we know he was not his biological father.  Adoption is legitimized by the Lord himself.  When one is adopted by a human father and when one is adopted into God’s family, it is as strong and real as blood to God. 

Beloved, do you need reassurance that you belong?  Trust that when God calls you his own, his treasured possession, he means it eternally.💖👆💖🙏💖🕊💖

Luke 2

Read Luke 2 – Merry Christmas in October – we are walking with Jesus from birth to age 12!  

Joseph and Mary journey to Bethlehem late in her pregnancy because of a census on one hand, and because this fulfilled the prophecy of Micah 5:2, that one who would rule Israel would come from little Bethlehem, one whose origins are from old, from ancient times. (My paraphrase) Beloved, we never know what the Lord is fulfilling through our day to day. 

The glory of verses :9-:15 is spectacular.   Try to visualize it as you read and be astonished as the shepherds were(:18).

When Jesus was 8 days old, Mary and Joseph took him to the temple for dedication and circumcision. Simeon (who was known as righteous and devout) and prophetess Anna knew Jesus was Messiah immediately and their encounter (:25-:38) is beautiful. 

Our chapter takes us through Jesus’s childhood up to age 12, when he stayed in the temple, amazing everyone who heard him. Beloved, carry the joy and wonder of Christ’s birth with you today.   What other gems did you notice as you read?

Luke 1:46-80

Read Luke 1:46-80 – God looks at the heart.   He fully knew Mary, Elizabeth and Zechariah inside and out. Their faith was true.  Their integrity and strength of character were trustworthy for the task God appointed them.  Look at what Mary says in verse :48, “He took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed.”  Beloved, there’s only one mother of Jesus, but there’s also only one YOU. By recognizing who God is and how special you are to him, you are making yourself ready to be used for purposes of eternal value. Set your heart on our wonderful Savior.  And consider Zechariah’s Prophecy in verse :76, “And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord.”  His faith that baby John would grow into a great prophet, just as Gabriel pronounced, was resolute.  Beloved, chose to believe God and speak His promises over your life and family. 🗨😃🙏💖🙏😃💬
