Matthew 27, part 1

Read Matthew 27:1-31 – This is hard.   It’s hard to imagine this level of corruption as the religious authorities bully the governor to kill Jesus. It’s hard to swallow their callousness when Judas tried to undo his betrayal by returning the silver. Judas killed himself…. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ and sinned so harshly against him that he hanged himself. The religious leaders response is just sickening. :3-10

The people joined the religious leaders,  shouting to crucify him, when Pilot made a last ditch effort to set Jesus free.  And though it was Pilots responsibility to  judge fairly, he instead gave in to mob justice, ordering Jesus flogged and crucified. :11-26

Beginning in :27 the soldiers mocked Jesus…. Why? Why? Why?  It’s so cruel, yet it is the fulfillment of prophecy and just one more part of the cost Jesus was willing to pay.

My heart aches at these verses. Our silent Savior let these heinous things play out upon him.  This is Jesus paying the cost of my sin and yours.

Beloved,  let the weight of these verses sink in.   This is love in action, his love for you.   If there would have been any other way to reconcile us to the LORD,  then these things would not have had to happen. Jesus is the way,  the truth and the life and no one gets to the Father except through him. (From John 14:6)

Luke 22:1-34

Read Luke 22:1-34 – Sifting gets the lumps out.

Today’s portion of Scripture covers Judas’s betrayal.  It covers what we call THE LAST SUPPER and COMMUNION.   And it contains a verse that has carried me through many trials.

This is Jesus speaking: SIMON, SIMON, SATAN HAS ASKED TO SIFT YOU AS WHEAT. BUT I HAVE PRAYED FOR YOU, SIMON, THAT YOUR FAITH MAY NOT FAIL.   AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS. 22:31-32

Beloved, have you ever felt sifted? Do you know that Jesus prays for you? Do you recognize that the trial is not your forever, but that Jesus has great things for you to do ‘when you have turned back’?  The Bible tells us that we are to consider trials as pure joy because of the great things they accomplish in us (see James 1:2-4).

Judas and Simon(Peter) will both fail Jesus,  but only Simon turns back (repents)… and he lives an amazing life for Christ that literally changed the world. Beloved, don’t ever quit before the miracle. ❣↩💖🙌💖↪❣

John 13

Read John 13 – This is hard stuff.   Even Jesus was troubled over this (:21).

Remember all those times Jesus was in a crowd of people who wanted to arrest or stone him,  and he simply left?   Those divine escapes happened because his time had not yet come.   Here in Chapter 13, it’s time (:1).

Jesus first washes his disciples feet and commands them to follow his example and wash one another’s feet (:14).  I think this is more significant than we can comprehend this side of heaven,  but on a human level, we should always be serving one another and making those around us clean, just as Jesus has done for us. The wheels are in motion for Judas to betray Jesus.   Satan enters him… remember Judas was prone to sin…. skimming money off the top (John 12:4-6)?  Yet this,  oh Judas,  was a line crossed that he was unable to uncross.  Jesus tells him, “What you are about to do,  do quickly.”(:27)

Beloved,  as you read, try imagining yourself as the characters. Personalize it so you can grow a little closer to how much Jesus loves you and how worthy he is of your praise. 🙌💝🙌
