Luke 12

Read Luke 12 – It’s so much more than here and now.

Jesus warns that hypocrisy and misplaced values will be revealed.  “The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.” 12:2

Jesus give the example of the man who hoarded his possessions, then died.  “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” 12:21

He warns that worry does not accomplish anything.  Isn’t that interesting?  Worry feels so necessary sometimes, but the truth is, “Who by worry can add a single moment to their life?” 12:25  And consider how worry shouts:  I DON’T TRUST YOU, LORD!!!!!  – Ouch!  Yes, Beloved, your time, your money, your concerns are best left in Christs care and control – set yourself free to store your treasures in heaven where no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.  Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also(:33-34).

Live close to Jesus, live dressed and ready for his return (:35-47).  And be prepared for the division that will cause.  Many people, even those closest to you, will stand against God.  Stay true, you know what lies ahead.  Sweet Jesus, his “terrible baptism of suffering” (:50) is close at hand, yet he is using his time to prepare us – are you listening?
