1 Samuel 16:1-13

Read 1 Samuel 16:1-13 – Saul is rejected by God, and Samuel is sent on mission to find the man the Lord has selected to be king (16:1).  The selection process is interesting, Jesse had 8 sons, although he only presented 7.  And, even though Eliab (the first son presented) looked the part, God assured Samuel he wasn’t the chosen king because God looks at the heart and not the outward appearance (16:7). David was the youngest and out tending sheep, his father didn’t even present him with the other sons, yet Samuel says they will wait for him.  David was God’s choice.  Samuel anointed him and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on David from that day on (16:13). Will you ponder Samuel’s relationship with the Lord?  Their communication was constant, although separate from what was going on in the physical realm.  Are you able to tune in to God’s voice above life’s circumstances?  This is something you should strive for and will develop as you continue to put the Lord first in your life.
